A well thought-out musical concept..... a perfect success, not only because this new combination has brought forth completely original dynamics, but also because Schubert’s musical poetry remains untouched (Een weldoordacht muzikaal concept ...... volkomen geslaagd, aangezien er in deze nieuwe combinatie niet alleen een geheel eigen dynamiek is gecreëerd, maar Schuberts muzikale poëzie overeind is gebleven)

Ellington Suites
Next year the Tony Overwater Trio and Calefax are going to the Middle East. They will make the same concert tour as Duke Ellington and his orchestra did in 1964, which resulted in the composition of the Far East Suite - one of the suites that these ensembles have arranged for their particular line up. But before heading to the ‘far east’, the two groups have an extensive Dutch concert tour, consisting of 10 concerts all over The Netherlands.
Check out Jazz Impuls [link naar www.jazzimpuls.nl] for info about the Dutch concerts 2007-2008.

Winterreise in Paradiso
Not only has Yuri Honing just released his version of Schubert’s Winterreise, he is the initiator and curator of a brand new yearly music festival, also entitled Winterreise. At the end of 2007, during those inspiring days just before closing yet another year, Yuri Honing invites you to come to Holland’s most popular pop venue, Paradiso, in Amsterdam and enjoy his choice of music representing ‘the world coming at you’! Besides heavy rock guitars and jazz by Honing’s own electric group Wired Paradise, one of the leading vocalists of the Middle East will perform: Rima Khcheich. And naturally the program wouldn’t be complete without Honing’s own interpretation of Schubert’s opus magnum. Read more about the program.
The evening will be hosted by Peter Heerschop.

New release in 2007
Rima Khcheich
The renowned Lebanese singer Rima Khcheich starts a new crossover project with Jazz in Motion. In 2002-2003 Rima was also part of the successful Arab/Dutch formation Orient Express that featured a/o the members of the Yuri Honing Trio. A warm friendship between the musicians developed and they stayed in touch with each other.
Early 2006 Rima invited bassist Tony Overwater for a special solo project in Beirut. After the war in Lebanon, Rima visited Holland to give an exclusive concert at the international War & Peace Conference in Amsterdam. She was accompanied by Tony Overwater, saxophonist Yuri Honing, guitarist Maarten van der Grinten and drummer Joost Lijbaart. The result of this performance was so extraordinary, the musicians immediately decided to make plans for the near future.
In 2007 a new CD will be released and an international presentation tour will follow. The repertoire of the new album consists of traditional and modern Arab songs in western contemporary arrangements: music that bridges the gap between two musical cultures.

Joost Lijbaart releases a new CD
Joost Lijbaart & Wolfert Brederode
After several successful try-out concerts at the Voorwoord Festival in The Hague and the Uitmarkt in Amsterdam, drummer Joost Lijbaart and ECM-recording pianist Wolfert Brederode are looking forward to the October release of their debut duo album, entitled One.
The two musicians have been working together for many years: for instance in the group of Swiss vocalist Susanne Abbuehl and more recently with Frans Thomése, the author of the acclaimed book Shadow Child. Thomése wanted to ‘record’ his book for blind people and he invited Brederode and Lijbaart to add music to the text. The collaboration between Lijbaart en Brederode turned out so well, they decided to start working as a duo and record their own music. And now the tables are turned: Thomése added text to their CD: he wrote the liner notes!
More information will follow as soon as possible.
